Matching the right operator to your gate, then making it work correctly every single time.
LiftMaster makes one of the broadest gate operator lineups available. Swing gates, slide gates, residential duty, commercial duty, and each category has multiple models. We select your specific unit on four documented factors, and that selection happens before the truck rolls.
Swing or slide. This decides which half of the LiftMaster lineup is even in play.
Estimated from physical measurements and material, not from a homeowner guess.
Confirmed with the property owner and written down. This one number drives the duty class.
Decided at selection, because retrofitting it later means rewiring the accessory terminals.
This is LiftMaster gate opener installation done with precision, not just a unit swapped in and handed over.
A gate in Los Angeles works harder than most homeowners expect, and LiftMaster's lineup reflects that range.
Our office sits near Wilshire and La Brea, within close reach of Hancock Park, Koreatown, Larchmont Village, and the Miracle Mile. These neighborhoods share something: ornamental iron driveway gates, often custom-fabricated, that open for multiple residents, deliveries, and visitors daily.
Residential class holds up
Residential class burns out
Both look residential on paper. Their cycle demands are completely different.
That difference determines whether a residential-duty LiftMaster unit holds up or burns out within months. Our proximity to central LA means we've seen both outcomes, and we install accordingly.
Selecting the correct operator is the first installation decision, and the most important one.
Before scheduling any LiftMaster installation, we document the gate specs. Gate type sets the row. Duty class sets the column. Mixing up these two operator classes costs time and money.
| Gate type / duty | Residential duty | Commercial duty |
|---|---|---|
| Swing gate | LiftMaster LA650EV An articulating arm operator designed for residential swing gates. A common choice on the ornamental iron gates throughout Hancock Park and Larchmont. Up to 16 ft wideUp to 650 lbsArticulating arm | Commercial-rated swing operator Where a swing gate is heavier than the residential ceiling or runs a high daily cycle count. Model chosen against the documented weight. Above 650 lbsHigh cycle |
| Slide gate | Residential slide operator Lighter slide gates on lower-traffic properties, where cycle counts stay inside the residential duty range. Lower cycle | LiftMaster SL3000 A commercial slide gate operator rated for heavy-duty use. The right call when the gate is wide, heavy, or sees 30-plus cycles daily. Heavy duty30+ cycles/daySlide |
A residential-rated unit on a high-cycle property hits its duty ceiling fast. The gate stops mid-cycle. Thermal protection trips. The opener wasn't defective, it was the wrong spec for the driveway. We document the model selection reason so you always understand what's installed and why it fits your specific gate.
Once the model class is set, how the operator attaches to the gate depends on your columns.
A gate opener using a multi-joint arm assembly to push or pull a swing gate.
Column placement limits straight clearance and you need mounting flexibility.
A gate opener using a push-rod mechanism, running lower-profile than an articulating arm.
Pillar setups are tighter and a low-profile assembly fits the space better.
myQ is an installation decision, not an afterthought.
myQ Technology is LiftMaster's cloud-based connectivity platform that lets you monitor and control your gate operator through a smartphone app. It also enables integration with smart home systems and third-party access control devices.
The wiring plan accounts for it. The programming sequence includes it. You get a connected system on day one, verified from a device outside the property network rather than just confirmed at the panel.
Adding myQ after installation often creates wiring conflicts at the accessory input terminal block, the terminal connections on a LiftMaster control board that accept signals from keypads, intercoms, loop detectors, and access control devices.
Accessory input wiring has to be mapped before installation, not retrofitted afterwards. If you want myQ, we confirm it at the selection stage.
Documented selection, clean wiring, and calibrated motion, every time.

Brand-agnostic. Matching an operator class to your gate's weighed load, whatever the manufacturer. Start there if you haven't picked a brand.

Three documented phases: site assessment, installation, and full programming before we leave.
We arrive and evaluate the gate as it stands. Gate weight is estimated from physical measurements and material. Column placement, pillar depth, and arm clearance are measured. Existing conduit is checked for reuse. If an access control panel is already on-site, we note the terminal layout before touching anything.
Cycle expectation is confirmed with the property owner. That single number drives the operator model decision, and we write it down.
The operator bracket mounts to the column. The arm assembly attaches to the gate leaf, articulating or linear depending on the selected unit. Wiring routes through conduit to the control board. Each accessory input is wired and labeled: keypad, loop detector, intercom, or access panel as applicable.
The control board connects to power. The myQ gateway installs and authenticates if that unit was specified.
Limit switch programming, the process of setting the travel endpoints in the LiftMaster unit, is calibrated precisely. This prevents motor overload and seats the gate fully closed every cycle. Soft-start and soft-stop sensitivity settings are adjusted for gate weight.
We run a minimum of ten full open and close cycles before calling the job complete. Safety sensor response is tested. Remote and keypad input is confirmed. myQ app control is verified from a device outside the property Wi-Fi network.
You receive a walkthrough of the control board, the remote pairing process, and the myQ app before we pack up.
