Reposition and change frequency
Move the receiver antenna and switch to 433 MHz remotes. Lower frequency, better wall penetration.

Remote gate access solves the most common access problem LA property owners face daily.
Here's the situation. It's 10 a.m. You're in a meeting across town. Your contractor texts: "I'm outside. Gate's locked." You have three options. Leave your meeting. Call a neighbor. Or open the gate from your phone in five seconds.
That third option is what remote gate access is built for. We install systems that let you control your gate from anywhere: a smartphone, a web dashboard, or even a phone call to a cellular gate controller.
A cellular gate controller is a device installed at your gate operator that connects to a cell network. It lets you trigger your gate without local Wi-Fi and without being anywhere near your property. No app required for basic use. No router. Just a signal.
Dense urban construction in LA creates RF challenges that require site-specific evaluation.
RF remote transmitters, handheld radio-frequency devices that send a coded signal to a gate operator receiver, have a rated range that assumes open air. Put a poured-concrete wall, a steel-framed carport, or a dense masonry pillar between the remote and the receiver, and that range drops fast.
Signal range is physical. It isn't fixed by a settings adjustment. That's why we evaluate site conditions before recommending any system. The right solution in Westwood may be completely different from the right solution in Boyle Heights. We spec for the property, not for the product line.
Our base sits near Wilshire and Highland, right in the middle of one of the densest stretches of urban Los Angeles. Different property, different obstruction profile:
A site assessment before equipment selection saves a second service call every time.
I got a call from a property manager on 6th Street near Western. She'd had a remote system installed about a year earlier. It worked sometimes. Not reliably. The tenants were complaining: remotes failing at 30 feet, the operator not receiving the signal consistently.
I went out and did a proper site read. The gate sat between two concrete-block walls, both load-bearing, both poured thick. The operator's receiver antenna was tucked inside the motor housing, pointing the wrong direction. The RF remotes being used were 315 MHz, fine for open driveways, but getting absorbed by that concrete before the signal even reached the receiver.
We had a conversation about three options.
Move the receiver antenna and switch to 433 MHz remotes. Lower frequency, better wall penetration.

Fit it to the existing operator. This bypasses the RF problem entirely, because the gate gets triggered through the cell network.
Distance and wall materials become irrelevant

The RF remote problem stopped being a problem because RF wasn't in the equation anymore. That's the kind of site-first thinking we bring to every remote access job in Los Angeles.
Security and convenience aren't trade-offs when the system is specified correctly.
A common question: if you're opening the gate remotely for someone, how do you prevent unauthorized access? Two answers.
A security protocol where the transmitter and receiver generate a new access code after every single use. Even if someone captures the signal from your remote, it's already expired. Rolling code is confirmed active on every RF transmitter we install, not assumed from factory default.
A time-limited or single-use credential issued through an app. A delivery driver gets a one-time code. A houseguest gets access that expires Sunday at midnight. Nothing permanent is issued. Nothing needs to be collected back.
The myQ platform, LiftMaster's proprietary app-based access system, handles both features through a single interface: gate status, open commands, and guest credentials in one app. We install and configure myQ on existing operators as part of this work, and also as part of a new LiftMaster opener installation.
Every system we install meets the same quality floor, with no exceptions for smaller jobs.
From site read to live system, in a structured sequence.
We start at the gate operator, checking the existing receiver type, antenna position, and input terminals. If you have an existing RF system, we test actual signal range under your property's real conditions, not rated range from the box. Wall materials, gate position, and distance from entry point to operator are all documented.
This takes 20 to 35 minutes and determines everything that follows.
Equipment is selected based on diagnostic findings. A cellular gate controller is installed directly at the operator's dry contact input, the standard trigger point on virtually all gate operators. App-based systems like myQ are paired to the operator's communication protocol.
We configure individual access credentials during installation. Guest access credentials are set up, tested, and handed off before the job is called complete.
Every trigger method gets live-tested: app open command, guest credential, and remote transmitter if one is retained. We confirm the access log is recording correctly, and walk you through the dashboard before we leave, including how to add or revoke a credential without calling us.
For wireless gate access covering multiple entry points on larger properties, we test each point independently. One weak link in a multi-gate system creates the same problem as no system at all.
